Handover ceremony at the EHA of relics of Emperor Tewodros and a bracelet donated by Lord Napier.

On 15 May 2026 relics associated with Emperor Tewodros were handed over by Col. (Retrd) Robin Jackson on behalf of the King's Own Royal Regiment Museum Trustees to Asst. Prof. Ababaw Ayalew, Director General of the Ethiopian Heritage Authority following a handover in the Lancaster on 12 May. The items included a piece of hair taken from the deceased Emperor's head by Ensign Edward Woodgate and a piece of his blood-stained shirt taken by Ensign Charles Frederik Hooper. In addition a filigree-gold bracelet was presented wich was given by Emperor Tewodros to Mrs Pauline Flad the wife of Johannes Martin Flad a missionary who were among the detainees, and acquired by Field Marsh Robert Napier who led the Magdala expedition in 1868. Lord Robert Napier his great, great grandson and his sister Ruth Self gifted the bracelet at a handover ceremony of relics associated with Emperor Tewodros organised by the King's Own Royal Regiment Museum trustees in Lancaster on 12 May 2026. Certificates of appreciation were presented to Dr Jackson for the KORRM, for Lord Napier and for Eyob Derillo the museum professional who identified and described the relics.
