In this first lesson, we will learn about the notes or swar. There are twelve notes, of which seven are considered pure notes, and the other five are either flat or sharp with respect to the pure notes. After learning how to identify all twelve notes, we will focus on the pure notes and learn how to practice them, by repeating them in different patterns and at different speeds. This is called swar riyaz and helps with voice training, which can improve the accuracy of your pitch. The class ends with a quick preview of what is to come later in the series with a short introduction to Raag Bhoopali.
