Who Should Actually Do an MBA? Three Types of MBA Candidates
Is an MBA still worth it?
In this clip, Sunmeet Gulati reflects on who should actually consider an MBA today, and who may be better served by a specialised master’s program such as MS Finance or Asset Management.
His view is that the traditional MBA equation has changed. Earlier, the path was straightforward: undergraduate degree, a few years of work, MBA, and then promotion. But today, companies increasingly want people who can do the job and bring specific skills.
Sunmeet argues that an MBA makes the most sense for two kinds of candidates:
1. People whose company requires or sponsors an MBA for promotion
2. People who are making a serious career pivot
For candidates who are already clear about their field - for example finance, investing, or asset management - a specialised master’s may sometimes be a stronger choice.
A useful clip for students and young professionals deciding between MBA, MS Finance, Asset Management, CFA, or other graduate pathways.
