March 2015 Family Asia Trip: Beijing, China (Part 1)

Highlights from our first trip to Beijing in Spring 2015.

Here is the itinerary from our trip:
Day 1: St. Louis to Seattle on Southwest Airlines Flight #529
- Hotel in Seattle: Double Tree by Hilton Seattle Airport

Day 2: Flight to Seoul on Korean Air Flight #20

Day 3: Seoul (ICN) to Beijing (PEK) on Korean Air Flight #853
Public transportation to Beijing Hotel:
- Take Airport Express Subway into city from Terminal 2
- Must catch train before 22:25 (25 CYN per person)
- Get off train at Dongzhimen (Last train from Dongzhimen leaves at 22:55
- Transfer (Buy new ticket = 2 CYN per person) to Line 2 (Blue Line) Inner Ring (Jishuitan-Dongzhimen-Fuxingmen-Jishuitan)
- Get off at 3rd stop (Jianguomen)
- Transfer to Line 1 (Sihui East-Pingguoyuan)
- Get off at 2nd stop (Wangfujing)
- Walk North on Wangfujing St. approximately 2 blocks to hotel
- Beijing Hotel: Legendale Hotel Beijing

Day 4: Trip to Great Wall-Badaling
- Leave hotel around 9:00
- Take subway Line 1 (Sihui East-Pingguoyuan) from Wangfujing stop to Fuxingmen (2 CYN per person)
- Transfer to Line 2 (Blue Line) Inner Ring (Jishuitan-Dongzhimen-Fuxingmen-Jishuitan)
- Take Line 2 to Xizhimen
- Walk to Beijing North Railway Station (northwest approximately 600 ft)
- Train to Badaling (6 CYN per person)
- Train S209 (Daily Train) 10:57-12:13 (1 hr 16 min)
- Walk from train station to Great Wall (Southeast approximately ¾ mile)
- Train back to Beijing (6 CYN per person)
- Train S224 (Daily Train) 17:33-18:54 (1 hr 21 min)

Day 5: Explore Beijing on foot (Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, Sacred Gardens and miscellaneous)

Day 6: Beijing shopping and markets in the morning
- High Speed train to Shanghai:
- Leave for Beijing South Railway Station by 12:00
- Take Line 1 (Sihui East-Pingguoyuan) to Xidan (3rd stop)
- Transfer to Line 4 (Down Direction / AnhequiaoBei-Tiangongyuan) at Xidan
- Take Line 4 (Down Direction / AnhequiaoBei-Tiangongyuan) to Beijing South Railway Station
