City of Rocks Idaho | California Gold Rush | Mountain Climbing | RV Living

We recently visited the City of Rocks National Reserve and WOW were we amazed! This location is part of the original California Trail and over 200,000 pioneers passed through this area on their way to California in search of gold during the California Gold Rush.

This area has over 60 primitive campsites as well as a regular campground at the bottom of the mountain. The site is perfect for rock climbing of all levels, hikers, and sightseers. You will LOVE your time at the City of Rocks National Reserve in Southern Idaho.

Emigrants of the California Trail describe the rocks here in vivid detail as "a city of tall spires,” “steeple rocks," and "the silent city." Today, this backcountry byway attracts rock climbers, campers, hikers, hunters, and those with the spirit of adventure. There's inspirational scenery, exceptional opportunities for geologic study, and remnants of the Old West awaiting your discovery.

Things to do: Mountain biking, photography, birding, historical sites, horseback riding, auto touring, hiking, rock climbing, hunting and fishing.
