Fixing Islabikes Beinn free wheel noise | Noisy freehub

Fixing an Islabikes Beinn 20 with noisy and worn out freehub bearings. I bought this bike secondhand. It was cheap but came with a couple of problems, one of which was noisy and worn out bearings in the rear hub.

This was originally going to be a video about replacing the ball bearings in the freehub, but as it turned out I couldn't remove the freehub from the wheel / rear hub. So instead I ended up building a new wheel!

In this video you'll see how I removed the wheel and wheel bearings, then you'll also see various approaches to removing the freehub, none of which worked in my case. I could have gone for even more aggressive approaches, but I was concerned about damaging components that could otherwise have been kept or sold for spares. Instead I stopped and decided to build a new rear wheel.

I couldn't find a 20 hole rim and hub in the correct colours, so the new wheel ended up being a 36 spoke wheel made with parts sourced from the Netherlands.

I hope you find something useful in here, if only some reassurance that removing the freehub from an Islabikes Beinn 20 might be quite a challenge!
