The Mysteries of Our Nightly Odyssey | Sashwatha Senthilkumar | TEDxLeander Youth

Sashwatha Sentilkumar explores the mysterious realm of dreams, delving into the age-old question of why humans dream. She shares her personal journey of recording dreams during the pandemic, revealing the initial challenges of dream recall and the subsequent insights gained. Drawing on theories from neurology and psychology, she suggests that dreams may serve as a form of emotional therapy, helping individuals process and soften the emotional impact of daily experiences. Despite the complexity of the question, she encourages listeners to spend a few minutes each day recording their dreams, fostering a deeper connection with the subconscious and potentially contributing to the ongoing exploration of the purpose of dreams. Sashwatha Senthilkumar is a senior at Leander High School. Sashwatha is the vice president of Dialexicon, a non-profit organization dedicated towards connecting students all across the world through philosophical discussions targeted at schooling and current injustices. She is also an active member in her direct community through her non-profit Ataraxia, where she promotes neurodiversity and attempts to relieve the mental health crisis among the unhoused population through research-backed mental health kits. Without further adieu, here is her speech, “The Mysteries of Our Nightly Odyssey.” This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
