Point of Care Ultrasound of the Inferior Vena Cava (IVC) - AMBOSS Video

POCUS of the IVC is predominantly used as part of the noninvasive assessment of the intravascular volume status in patients with hypovolemia (e.g., shock, dehydration) or hypervolemia (e.g., congestive heart failure, fluid overload). Measurement of the IVC diameter during respiration can also be useful when estimating fluid responsiveness in patients requiring fluid resuscitation (e.g., after a fluid challenge or passive leg raise test).
This tutorial provides an overview of how to perform an ultrasound of the inferior vena cava.
