"Conversations from St. Norbert College" featuring Amy-Jill Levine

Vanderbilt University theologian Amy-Jill Levine will be the guest on this episode of the "Conversations from St. Norbert College" television show, hosted by Kevin Quinn (Economics). They will discuss her scholarly work, which includes several books on the Bible and early Christianity.

Levine is University Professor of New Testament and Jewish Studies as well as E. Rhodes and Leona B. Carpenter Professor of New Testament Studies at Vanderbilt University's Divinity School and Graduate Department of Religion. She is also an affiliated professor at the Woolf Institute, a center for the study of Jewish, Christian and Muslim relations located in Cambridge, UK.

A self-described "Yankee Jewish feminist who teaches in a predominantly Christian divinity school in the buckle of the Bible Belt," Levine combines historical-critical rigor, literary-critical sensitivity and frequent humor with a commitment to eliminating anti-Jewish, sexist and homophobic theologies. Her recent books include "The Misunderstood Jew: The Church and the Scandal of the Jewish Jesus" and "The Jewish Annotated New Testament."

Levine received her bachelor's degree from Smith College and her master's and doctorate degrees from Duke University. She holds honorary doctorates from the University of Richmond, the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest, the University of South Carolina-Upstate, Drury University and Christian Theological Seminary.
