Amid rising fuel prices and global oil uncertainty, the Indian government has taken a major step toward alternative fuel adoption. The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has officially notified fuel standards for E22, E25, E27, and E30 petrol blends, allowing petrol to contain 22% to 30% ethanol.

The move comes at a time when global crude oil prices are under pressure due to geopolitical tensions involving Iran and Israel. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already urged citizens to reduce unnecessary fuel consumption.

The government believes higher ethanol blending will reduce India’s dependence on imported crude oil, support farmers, and lower vehicle emissions. Currently, India imports over 85% of its crude oil needs.

India has already crossed 18% ethanol blending nationally under the E20 program. Public sector oil companies are expanding infrastructure for ethanol-based fuels, while automobile manufacturers are launching E20-compatible vehicles.

The latest BIS standards indicate that India is now preparing for the next phase of high-ethanol fuel adoption.

पेट्रोल और डीजल की बढ़ती कीमतों के बीच केंद्र सरकार ने बड़ा कदम उठाया है। भारतीय मानक ब्यूरो (BIS) ने E22, E25, E27 और E30 जैसे हाई एथेनॉल मिश्रित पेट्रोल के लिए नए मानक जारी कर दिए हैं। इसका मतलब है कि अब पेट्रोल में 22% से 30% तक एथेनॉल मिलाकर ईंधन तैयार किया जा सकेगा।

यह फैसला ऐसे समय आया है जब ईरान-इजरायल तनाव और वैश्विक संकट के कारण कच्चे तेल की कीमतें लगातार बढ़ रही हैं। प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी पहले ही देशवासियों से सीमित ईंधन उपयोग की अपील कर चुके हैं।

सरकार का लक्ष्य तेल आयात पर निर्भरता कम करना, किसानों की आय बढ़ाना और प्रदूषण घटाना है। भारत फिलहाल अपनी जरूरत का 85% से ज्यादा कच्चा तेल आयात करता है।

देश में E20 फ्यूल पहले से लागू किया जा रहा है और अब नए BIS मानकों से संकेत मिल रहा है कि भारत जल्द ही E30 फ्यूल की दिशा में भी तेजी से आगे बढ़ सकता है।
