Venezuela's Oil Bust: Maracaibo was once the jewel of Venezuela's petroleum economy, drawing companies and workers from all over the world. But the city, along with the rest of the country, is in the midst of a crisis.

Citizens of Maracaibo queue for hours to reach petrol pumps, and often, these trips are fruitless. "I want to explode!" says one man, turned away after waiting in line for almost twenty-four hours. The state oil company Petróleos De Venezuela was once the backbone of employment here, now workers are left with nothing. "I want [the Americans] to come in force so that they clean everything up, and PDVSA can be reborn", says one former worker.
