When you’re out with a dog or a pack of dogs on a trail, it’s important to practice proper etiquette to keep you, your dogs and everyone around you safe. It’s not uncommon for folks to be out who don’t want dogs rushing up to them, and there are often times off leash dogs with no recall out on trails as well. The best thing you can do is to have your dog under compete control, get them out of the way, and create space between you and others. We keep dogs in our “bubble” by practicing a lot of recall and downs. Once you recall a dog from a certain distance enough, it tends to stay within that boundary. You want your dog to be able to recall off any distraction, and if it can’t, just leave a long line on for safety. It’s not worth possibly losing your dog because it chased down prey. The rules of nature art endless, but the best thing you can do is be as prepared as possible.
