PhysX-Omni: Simulation-Ready 3D Generation

In this AI Research Roundup episode, Alex discusses the paper: 'PhysX-Omni: Unified Simulation-Ready Physical 3D Generation for Rigid, Deformable, and Articulated Objects' PhysX-Omni is a new unified framework designed to generate simulation-ready physical 3D assets across rigid, deformable, and articulated object types from a single image. Built on a Qwen2.5-VL-7B-Instruct vision-language model, the system uses a coarse-to-fine reasoning process to infer both global properties like material and scale, as well as local part-level geometry. To efficiently encode high-resolution 3D structures without complex segmentation, the authors introduce a novel template-based 2D run-length encoding geometry representation. This method successfully bridges the gap between photorealistic 3D generation and actual physics-based simulation for gaming, robotics, and embodied AI.
