After much experimentation and interesting finds. I have formulated a shampoo that has oil in it.
I wanted to find a way to emulsify my shampoo without adding chemicals.
I first used beeswax but it can lead to build up and I wanted to avoid that.
So I used the lecithin to emulsify with the support of gum arabic(acacia gum) as a stabiliser.
I believe the African black soap also assists in maintaining and stabilising the emulsification.
It has been a success! Gonna keep using it and update you on how it goes.
Also gonna continue to experiment with adding other oils, natural colourants and essential oils.
*note: after a day the shampoo took on a greenish tinge to it. Next time I will try and use an oil that has no colour or a more yellow hue. The avocado shampoo was a bright green however the olive oil shampoo did have some colour change*
At some point, through my experiments, I developed something that could be used as a conditioner but I did not record the measurements.
Sorry if volume is too low, I'm still trying to figure this video thing out
Measurements
African Black Soap - 100mls
Vegetable glycerin - 100mls
Extra virgin olive oil - 100 mls
Sunflower Lecithin - 25g
Apple cider vinegar - 50mls
Optional:
Acacia Gum (Gum arabic) - 25g
The fundamentals of the shampoo are:
African black soap
Glycerin
Oil - of your choice, I've used mixtures - apricot kernel, avocado, butters (shea and mango), coconut etc
Sunflower Lecithin - although you might be able to substitute if for soy lecithin - or any other emulsifier
Apple cider changes the consistency by loosening the mixture
Acacia gum helps stabilise the mixture
