Microsoft Copilot Work Mode vs Web Mode Explained | M365 Copilot Chat Lab (AB-730)

In this hands-on lab session, we explore one of the most important concepts in Microsoft Copilot Chat — Work Mode vs Web Mode. Understanding the difference between these two modes is critical for using Microsoft 365 Copilot effectively in real-world scenarios.

In this exercise, we demonstrate how Copilot retrieves information depending on the selected scope. When Web Mode is selected, Copilot uses Bing-powered internet search to gather information from publicly available websites. When Work Mode is selected, Copilot retrieves information from your Microsoft 365 tenant data, including emails, files, Teams conversations, and calendar events.

Through practical demonstrations, we test different prompts and observe how Copilot behaves differently depending on the selected mode. You will also see how Work Mode can access internal organizational context while Web Mode focuses strictly on external web knowledge.
