Favorite Memoirs by Black Writers

In today's publishing lingo, a memoir is a book you write about true events you've experienced. It's not an autobiography per se--that's a full chronicle of the events of your life.

A memoir is usually centered on a single theme, event, or time period within the larger context of your life.

And it's written like a novel--populated with vivid characters and centered on edge-of-your-seat conflict that grows over the course of the book to a satisfying conclusion.

Our memoir authors often feel flummoxed on how to keep a reader's attention, page after page. That's why I made this video!

In this video, you'll learn:

* Several time-honored techniques that successful memoirists use
* The three types of memoirs that sell best in today's marketplace
* What readers want when they're reading memoir
* And more!

Bonus: As we continue to honor and celebrate Black History Month, I illustrated all my points with memoirs I love, each written by a Black author.

Get your Amazon app (or library card!) ready, because you're going to want to read some of these!
Here are the titles highlighted:

It's Trevor Noah: Born a Crime

Years of Yes, Shonda Rhimes
