Neil | Chief Engineer Officer | P&Ople | P&O Ferries

Meet Neil Hibbert, Chief #Engineer Officer on board the Pride of Canterbury. Neil's job is to maintain the ship's engines and all technical aspects of the ferry, to ensure the Pride of Canterbury can keep sailing passengers between Dover and Calais.

Neil's job is incredibly varied. No single day is the same and he will often find himself working in a variety of locations; down in the engine room inspecting machinery and ensuring everything is running as planned, doing checks on car decks to inspect equipment, motors and vents, and providing technical support on interior machinery in the galley, crew cabins, ventilation rooms and much, much more.

Being such a small team, the engineering department are very close-knit and work well together as a small family-within-a-family. Their jobs take them all over the ship and this is what keeps Neil interested and passionate about his work. With so much variety and diversity to the role, there is never a dull moment and Neil encourages anyone considering a career at sea to think about joining an engineering department.
