Hi! My name’s BenStack or Ben, and my goal with these streams is purely to learn and improve on my web development skills.

I’ve tried learning HTML, CSS, and JavaScript a few times in the past, but I’m very rusty. Rather than jumping ahead and getting lost and discouraged, I’m starting from absolute zero to build a rock-solid foundation.

I’m using The Odin Project as a starting point to guide my learning, beginning with the fundamentals (basic HTML/CSS) and working my way up toward modern frameworks and full-stack technologies.

If you’re also a CS student looking for study motivation, someone new to coding, or just want to study along, feel free to hang out or work with me! It’s great to have you! :)

❔ FAQ:

Q: What are you building?
A: Check the very top of the description.

Q: What's your name?
A: You can call me BenStack or Ben.

Q: Where are you from?
A: I'm based in Eastern Canada. Please don't ask for a more specific location; I won't tell you.

Q: How old are you?
A: 25.

Q: What resources would you recommend for learning web development?
A:
Free:
- The Odin Project: https://www.theodinproject.com/
- FreeCodeCamp: https://www.freecodecamp.org/
Paid:
- Scrimba: https://scrimba.com/home
- CodeDex: https://www.codedex.io/
- Frontend Mentor: https://www.frontendmentor.io/

Q: What pomodoro app do you use?
A: https://pomofocus.io

Q: Do you have a formal education?
A: Yes, I have a Bachelor of Applied Science in Computer Science (2025) and a Bachelor of Science in Biology (2023). I don't use my biology degree at all anymore but I'd love to incorporate it into the work that I do some day.

Q: What do you do for a living?
A: I work in IT. It's alright, it pays the bills. But I'd really like to work in software development some day.

Q: How long have you been coding for?
A: I taught myself the basics of programming about 15 years ago when I was in elementary school, but never took it seriously until I started my CS degree in 2023. Since then I've learned a lot of CS theory but still possess very few practical skills. I started documenting my journey learning web development on this channel in January 2026.

Q: Why are you learning web development and not another kind of programming?
A: I feel like web development is a great spot to start for learning industry-relevant technologies. It gives me a good foundation of knowledge that I can use to expand upon when the time comes. Not to mention there are still more jobs requiring web development skills than any other kind of software development (I think).

Q: Why aren't you using AI?
A: I'm against leaning on AI for most things, especially learning. I want to learn things the hard way so the knowledge I gain actually sticks. I don't want to have to rely on AI to do everything for me; I want to deeply understand the technologies I'm learning and working with so I know what I'm doing.
