One of the main problems that a lot of clients that come into our shop is that they're always concerned about ingrown hairs. What can we do to prevent ingrown hairs? The suggestions that I always have for all my clients, shave more often, don't shave as close, use preshave oil, proper prep, gets a close shave without causing irritation and ingrowns.

The problem with ingrown hair is that what happens is that, if you wait too long to shave and you aren't shaving everyday, the blade actually picks up the hair, cuts underneath it, and the hair goes back into the skin, which causes ingrowns. So if you actually shave every day and not as close, then you prevent that, because what you're doing is just cutting off the top of the hair on the skin, and that's probably the best way to prevent ingrowns.

Don't forget about the post-shave. There's all kinds of after-shave balms out there with shea butter, salicylic acid, whatever that also helps sooth and prevent ingrown hairs. If you do come into a problem with having an ingrown hair and it's very irritated, I definitely suggest you see an esthetician or somebody, so that they can actually get the hair. What they'll do is get the hair out of the skin. You can do this also at home.

The thing is, is make sure that you have the proper tools, which is a tweezer. Make sure you have a disinfectant, an astringent so that you close the pores up afterwards, and you don't cause any bacteria or anything and create another problem that you don't have existing. That's the best recommendation I have for preventing ingrown hairs.
