Stefanie Stantcheva is an economist studying the taxation of firms and individuals using models and data. In 2019, she was invited to the 18th Journées Louis-André Gérard-Varet, one of the most important yearly conference in public economics in Europe, organized by Aix-Marseille School of Economics (AMSE). She presented the paper « Taxation and Innovation in the 20th Century » she co-authored with Ufuk Akcigit, John Grigsby and Tom Nicholas. Stefanie Stantcheva received her Ph.D. in Economics from MIT in 2014. She is a Professor of Economics at Harvard University. Since May 2018, she has been a member of the French Council of Economic Advisers (Conseil d’Analyse Economique). Since January 2020, she is a co-editor at the Quarterly Journal of Economics. She has published in leading economic journals, such as the American Economic Review, the Journal of Political Economy, The Review of Economic Studies and the Journal of Public Economics. Her research focuses on how to improve the tax and transfer system for firms and individuals. She combines theory and empirics to study the effects of taxes and transfers on human capital, capital, migration, and innovation and how to incorporate these effects into tax models. She also explores what drives people's social preferences, attitudes, and perceptions using large-scale online surveys and experiments.
