This is the second Zen Walks virtual tour in Porto (Oporto), the capital city of the north of Portugal, and the country's second largest city, after Lisbon.
Enjoy a sunny morning walk, starting at Porto's iconic avenue of Avenida dos Aliados, with its stunning early 20th century buildings. We'll pass by the famous train station of São Bento, admire its beautiful tiles. We'll also go by Porto's cathedral -- a monumental church and square, with impressive views over downtown and the Douro river.
We'll then continue towards Vila Nova de Gaia, the southern shore of the river, walking on the top deck of the 19th century bridge of Dom Luís I, where pedestrians and trams share incredible vistas over Porto and Gaia.
[Wikipedia: Dom Luís I Bridge is a double-deck metal arch bridge that spans the River Douro between the cities of Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia in Portugal. At its construction, its 172 metres (564 ft) span was the longest of its type in the world]. It was projected by Gustav Eiffel's disciple Théophile Seyrig, and inaugurated in 1886.
Walking on its top deck is quite an experience, and seeing it from the other side, with the city of Porto in the background is something very special, which you'll get to witness during this walk.
Close to the end of this virtual Porto tour, we will walk by Gaia's famous Port Wine cellars like Sandeman, Offley, Cálem, Taylor's, and others.
This walk ends by the Douro river, overlooking Porto city on the other side of the river, and admiring the traditional Rabelo Boats, used to transport the port wine from Gaia to Porto in the old times.
