Colorado Calcite Crystal under 365 Long Wave Ultra Violet Light Glows Red - Pink

Probably the most common fluorescent mineral, calcite is a carbonate mineral that can be found throughout the world. Calcite also comes in a variety of interesting habits, or shapes, that can resemble poker chips, dogteeth, flowers, columns, and simple blocks. Those shapes, combined with the array of colors that calcite can fluoresce, makes calcite a very diverse and fascinating fluorescent mineral. Mohs Hardness 3.

This is not Rhodochrosite : a manganese carbonate mineral with chemical composition MnCO3. In its pure form (rare), it is typically a rose-red colour, but it can also be shades of pink to pale brown. It streaks white, and its Mohs hardness varies between 3.5 and 4.5. Its specific gravity is between 3.45 and 3.6.

Fluorescence is the property of certain materials to absorb electromagnetic radiation (often ultraviolet light) and re-emit it as visible light at a longer wavelength (lower energy).
This emission stops almost immediately when the excitation source is removed, distinguishing it from phosphorescence, where light emission persists.

Fluorescent materials appear to "glow" under UV light, producing bright colors such as green, yellow, orange, and red. This phenomenon is a form of photo luminescence and occurs due to electronic transitions in atoms or molecules that do not involve a change in electron spin.
