Join me for a 4K walk around Bridge of Allan. A former spa town at the foot of the Ochil Hills, located just north of Stirling. The mainly residential town of Bridge of Allan near Stirling nestles in wooded countryside below the Ochil Hills on Allan Water, a tributary to the River Forth. The grounds of the town’s Airthrey Estate, sitting just below the Ochil Hills, play host to the University of Stirling, founded in 1967.

The town developed as a spa resort in the 19th century when visitors to the Trossachs began to increase. Authors Robert Louis Stevenson and Charles Dickens were regular visitors at the height of the resort’s popularity. Many of its original fine Victorian villas and public buildings are preserved, evidence of its once prosperous past.

Current facilities include a leisure centre, sporting facilities, a golf club, shops, restaurants and hotels. The town is easily accessible by road and by rail with direct and indirect services to Stirling, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Inverness, Perth, Dundee and Aberdeen.
