This video was taken of Richmond during Memorial Day Weekend, 2019. It includes footage of Capitol Square, St. Paul's Episcopal Church, the Virginia civil rights memorial, and Old City Hall, as well as the beautiful Capitol building which was designed by Thomas Jefferson and Charles-Louis Clérisseau. It also shows the monuments of several prominent Virginians on the ground. This includes Bell Tower, which was built in 1824, and the former custom house, a building built between 1855 and 1858 which is now known as the Lewis F. Powell U. S. Courthouse. Shortly before his appointment to the U.S. Supreme Court, Powell wrote in 1971 the controversial Powell memorandum, a document called by the activist organization Greenpeace “a blueprint for corporate domination of American Democracy.” As no government offices were open during that weekend, you will see very peaceful footage of the Virginia State Capitol
