Feast of Fresh in Winter
Harvest your own greens in midwinter, in a temperate climate. We filmed this after frosts of -6C 21F to show what survives that small level of cold. My garden is zone 8 in SW England with 35-40 frosts from late October to mid May, 51N latitude, 30 miles or 50km from the Atlantic Ocean.
Showing what and how you can harvest outside in January. There are many green leaves. Plus in my store are the winter carbohydrates of potatoes, beetroot, carrots, squash and onions.
The garden is no dig. It's why I don't get muddy boots, the soil undisturbed and mulched/covered. It's a heavy, silt soil in a damp climate, rainfall 80mm or 3.2in most months. No sticky mud makes it easy to be out in winter, any time, and it means few weeds, few slugs as well.
Beds have no wood sides, which I explain here. See this earlier video about removing wooden sides https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9xCAZIghQmg.
For Starting out No Dig, on many weeds and without sides, see my March 2020 video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0LH6-w57Slw
