Clearing Heat: Huang Lian Jie Du Tang | Acupuncture CEUs/PDAs | TCM Study
Huang Lian Jie Du Tang (Coptis Decoction to Relieve Toxicity) helps to excess heat, fire and toxins in all three jiaos. Aaron Zizov uses this formula for all conditions of heat which includes inflammation, bleeding, toxicity, and even pain.
His version of this formula is composed of the following herbs:
Huang lian
Huang qin
Huang bai
Zhi zi tan
This formula can also be used for acne due to heat and damp-heat. The tongue characteristics will typically have a yellowish colored coating. This formula is not recommended to use for long term use and may injure the Yin if used for too long. 1-2 month of use is optimal and patients will need to stop using these herbs to regulate the other functions of the organs.
Fun Fact: Huang means yellow and herbs with Huang helps drain dampness and heat.
