Africa Twin Offroad Racing 2017 Desert 100

April 2nd, 2017 I raced in the 47th annual Stumpjumpers Desert 100 in central Washington. 1200 racers, Le Mans style start signalled by a cannon.

This was my 5th year racing the ADV class (652cc and up). The class is mostly made up of KTM 950SE and 950/990ADV with some 690, 701, F800gs, HP2E etc mixed in. I raced my modded F800gs in 2013-2015, 1190R in 2016 and this year on an Africa Twin.

The course was extremely wet this year with dozens of huge sink holes, bogs and soft sections just waiting to swallow your front tire or whole bike.

I placed ok despite having several issues. I battled back and forth with Adrian (my good friend and fellow GS Trophy team member) for the entire race. We swapping positions 9 times and when the dust settled (literally), he was just seconds ahead of me.

As always, I had a blast at the race and can't wait to go back next year.

Bike set up:
-SW Motech skid plate
-Hepco Becker crash bars (with extra gussets and bracing)
-Camel ADV high fender conversion
-Seat Concepts Rally High
-Renthal RC High bars
-Emperor Racing handguards
-Dunlop AT81 front tire
-Terraflex rear tire
-Konflict Motorsports tuned suspension (stock parts resprung/revalved)
-Leo Vince exhaust
