Amid rising tensions due to the Pahalgam conflict, Pakistan’s minister Hanif Abbasi recently issued a bold threat to India. He warned that if India attempts to block Pakistan’s water supply, Pakistan will declare full-scale war. He further stated that Pakistan’s nuclear weapons aren’t just for show—no one knows where they’re hidden, but all of them are aimed solely at India. Even Pakistan's Defense Minister has echoed similar threats, claiming that if India initiates military action, Pakistan will respond with a nuclear strike as a last resort.

However, launching a nuclear war is an extremely drastic and self-destructive move. So, to assess the possibility logically, we must explore three key questions:

Can Pakistan afford it nationally—is the country stable enough internally?

Can it afford it internationally—will any global powers support Pakistan?

Can it afford it legally—what are the protocols, treaties, and consequences tied to such an attack?
