“Jagadodharana” (ಜಗದೋದ್ಧಾರನ) is one of the most famous compositions of the Pitamaha of Carnatic Music - Saint Purandaradasa (c.1484 – c.1565) which he sang in front of Lord Krishna at the Aprameya Swami temple located at Malur, a village on the Bangalore-Mysore Highway, a few kilometres from Channapatna.
Jagadodharna is a simple kriti about how Krishna's mother, Yashoda, is unaware that her child is an incarnation of the Almighty and only sees Him as her child. She showers all her affection upon Him and plays with Him like any mother would with their children. The song conveys a beautiful message of hope to people everywhere which is that children are the image of God and they are the world's future. It is they that will save the world and love is all they need
The song “Jagadodharana” became synonymous with Bharat Ratna Smt M.S.Subbulakshmi and her daughter Dr Radha Viswanathan especially after it was rendered by them at the concert in the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA - New York) on Oct 23rd 1966, in front of a global audience.
S Aishwarya and S Saundarya (being the inheritors of the MS legacy) are indeed delighted and blessed to render this song as a homage to the their Great Grandmother and Grandmother.
