It’s been two years of no contact with the narcissistic ex. Unfortunately, I have no choice but to meet up with him after two years of no contact. I can’t avoid meeting up with the narcissist, so I’m having to prepare for the meeting. One thing I’ve realised is that through the self-reflection I’ve done, I’m a lot stronger than I was. I can see now that maybe, underneath all the grandiosity, manipulation, and drama, narcissists are incredibly lonely. They crave constant validation because they feel empty inside. Their attention-seeking behaviour often comes from a deep place of insecurity and isolation. When you stop giving them the emotional responses they thrive on, they’re forced to confront that loneliness, which is often the one thing they desperately try to avoid. I know I’ll have to give him the Grey Rock method, which I learnt is to make yourself as uninteresting and emotionally unresponsive as possible — like a boring, dull grey rock. Narcissists thrive on drama, attention, and emotional reactions. When you stop feeding them those reactions, they often lose interest or back off because they’re not getting the supply they want. I don’t ever want to see the narcissist after this, so I will have to remain emotionless to protect myself.
