ARIA Award-winning, gold-selling, Melbourne DJ/producer Sgt Slick is no stranger to wildly successful dance remakes of classic songs. His 2020 recut of the ABBA classic ‘Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!’ started bubbling in the clubs of Melbourne and went on to hit #1 on the ARIA Club Chart, become one of the most played songs on radio and get played by the biggest DJs around the world including FISHER, Diplo, Joel Corry and more, racking up over 20 million streams in the process. Now Sgt Slick has done it again, adding his signature nu-disco touch to the ubiquitous Kate Bush classic ‘Running Up That Hill’.

Originally making the recut to play in his sets, DJs started begging for a copy as soon as Sgt Slick posted his version on social media. The track was immediately added to SiriusXM in the US before Sgt Slick got Aussie synth lord Luke Million on board, alongside incredible vocalist Mandy Watson, to help make an official version of his bootleg.

Sgt Slick explains how it all came together: “As is often the case on a Saturday, I’ll usually start thinking around mid-afternoon about what I’m going to play in that night’s DJ sets... sometimes it starts with a quick browse on Spotify to see if there’s any big tunes I might’ve missed. On this afternoon I was surprised to see Kate Bush’s 80s gem Running Up That Hill in the top 5 worldwide and after a quick search to find out how on earth it had landed back in the charts (having never seen a single episode of Stranger Things - I’ve since caught up!) next thing I’m up in the studio quickly belting out a ReCut to play that night. The dance floor reactions were white hot, and continued to grow over the following weeks to the point where I was approached by the crew at TMRW Music with the idea of releasing a cleared cover version. With a little help from the UK’s most renowned Kate Bush cover vocalist Mandy Watson, and one of Australia’s true synth lords Luke Million, we recreated the song from scratch and placed it over those same beats I’d put together just weeks earlier!”
