Michael Jackson ft Vincent Price ~ Thriller 1983 Disco Purrfection Version

After Michael completed his highly successful "Off The Wall" LP, he went back to Quincy Jones for his follow up. He had an idea for the song's video that would pay tribute to the great classic horror films and set about putting it together. It became the title track of his new LP and the centerpiece of his strategy. Vincent Price was tapped to provide a rap since he was the king of the type of horror films Michael liked. However in the final release, one verse of his rap was removed. The song was released on November 12, 1983 a little late for Halloween. A mini movie video production by John Landis was completed and put out on December 2, 1983. It eventually peaked at #4 on the Hot 100 in early 1984. The video for "Thriller" also included a "Making of" video that satisfied the fans who wanted to see more. John Landis had directed 1981's "An American Werewolf in London" that attracted Michael's attention for the special effects used in the transformation scenes. Landis had also acquired some notoriety for his role in the 1982 deaths of actor Vic Morrow and two children for the helicopter accident while he was filming his sequence for the "Twilight Zone" movie. Vincent's entire voice over was released on the Thriller Anniversary Edition and it has been used in this version. Halloween is fast approaching, and this is the best entry I could think of to put out there....hope you like! If you listen to the bassline, you may recognize it sounds like the bass in Rick James "Give It To Me Baby". In a conversation with James, Producer Quincy Jones boasted that he had bested him and advised to come up with something new. James took an abrupt right turn into the less is more with his next song "Cold Blooded", which ended up #1 for six weeks on the R&B chart. Just a little something extra. Just a reminder that "Thriller" sold more than 55 million copies and you can bet a copy of it is in a time capsule somewhere to be dug up by a future generation.
