France: Travelling School for Roma Children (Learning World: S5E43, 2/3)

Roma children in Europe face constant challenges. In France, only around half of them are enrolled in schooling.

One association is taking informal education to the community by turning public spaces into classrooms. Maria-Laura Oita, a social pedagogue, runs workshops in two Roma camps near Paris, which are open to every child in the community. Collective learning and socialisation are encouraged through play. Artistic expression is used to develop self-confidence.
