Parents In Prison Are Losing Their Kids Forever | NBC Left Field
In North Carolina and Florida, two formerly incarcerated parents are trying to reunite with their children. A 1997 law passed by President Clinton required that once children spent 15 months in foster care, their parents’ rights would be irreversibly terminated. Since most prison sentences are longer than 15 months, thousands of people began losing their children forever. While experts continue to debate what's best for children, at least 32,000 parents lost their kids between 2006 and 2016.
