Slate Mountain Ramblers, 3rd place String Band, 94th Johnson County Old Time Fiddlers Convention

“John Brown's Dream” (second tune) by “The Slate Mountain Ramblers” was performed for 3rd place in Old Time String Band competition at the 94th Johnson County Old-Time Fiddlers Convention hosted by Jackie Warden at the Old Mill Music Park in Laurel Bloomery, Tennessee. (Missed first tune- did not know competitions would start an hour earlier than was customary at Laurel Bloomery.)

The 95th Johnson County Old-Time Fiddlers Convention was canceled as a precaution due to 2020 Covid-19 pandemic which was still very active in August 2020. Hopefully it will be rescheduled for the same week in 2021.

This now commonly called the "Laurel Bloomery Fiddlers Convention" since it has been held for the last 20 to 30 years (accounts vary) at the Old Mill Music Park in Laurel Bloomery (Johnson County), Tennessee. The first fiddlers convention was held in the Johnson County High School auditorium in Mountain City in 1925 and has since been held somewhere in the county every year since. G.B Grayson and Henry Whitter are alleged to have first met and formed their recording partnership at the 1927 Johnson County Fiddlers Convention. Henry Whitter already had established contacts in the fast growing recording industry according to some accounts.
