📌 ARCHIVAL NOTICE: This node operates on a fully autonomous 12-hour cycle to permanently archive continuous visual data as Video-On-Demand (VOD). This ensures that students, scientists, local government units (LGUs), Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) teams, and the community always have uninterrupted, high-quality historical footage available for review and research following any significant volcanic activity.
🌋 TOPOGRAPHIC TARGET ZONES
• Mi-isi Gully (South): Primary active channel within our optical FOV. High probability zone for routing lava effusion and incandescent rockfalls.
• Bonga Gully (Southeast): Secondary active channel. Frequently tracks pyroclastic and rockfall events visible from the Daraga viewpoint.
• Basud Gully (East): Eastern drainage perimeter. Continuously monitored for flank activity and structural overflow.
Welcome to MayonStream Lab
This is a continuous, real-time autonomous visual monitoring node targeting Mayon Volcano in Albay, Philippines.
What started in 2023 as a bootstrapped hardware experiment has evolved through endless trials and volcanic events into a resilient, 24/7 monitoring station. We are constantly pushing code and upgrading hardware to build a better disaster-monitoring tool for the community.
THE HARDWARE & SOFTWARE STACK
It is a custom edge-computing project engineered specifically for this node.
Capture Node: Raspberry Pi 4
Sensor: Low-profile Sony Starvis sensor
Optics: 16mm lens
SYSTEM STATUS & KNOWN ISSUES
Bitrate: Streaming at a highly optimized 14 Mbps. We recommend locking your YouTube player to 1440p (2K) to experience the full optical clarity and prevent YouTube compression artifacts.
Visibility: * White/Grey: Heavy rain or cloud cover (Stream is not frozen).
Black: Nighttime with no active crater glow. Check the telemetry clock overlay for stream health.
Hazy: Thermal distortion or suspended volcanic ash softening the focal plane.
(Stream initialized: July 22, 2026)
