Ever Dreamed Of Owning A Muscle Car?

Muscle cars are icons of American motoring, but what actually defines a muscle car? And what is it that makes them so popular with drivers?

The term “muscle car” is a peculiarly U.S. one, though movie franchises like The Fast and the Furious have introduced these powerful and sophisticated vehicles to a whole new audience in Asia and Europe. The one thing all muscle cars have in common is power under the hood and an impressive acceleration.

Although there are a few motor manufacturers who claim to have invented the genre, aficionados of these vehicles generally believe that the first ever muscle car was the 1949 Oldsmobile Rocket 88. Others claim that the Oldsmobile car was simply the inspiration for the real muscle cars which came later, such as the 1964 Pontiac GTO.

Many of the most iconic names in American motoring have built, and continue to build, muscle cars, including the Dodge Challenger, the Ford Mustang and the Chevrolet Camaro, all of which had new models out in 2018. Real muscle car fans, however, know that often the original vehicles from the 1960s and 1970s are the best – even though these aging vehicles come with their own list of problems.
