The Finance Commission of India is a constitutional body established under Article 280 of the Indian Constitution. Its primary purpose is to define the financial relationship between the Central Government and the State Governments. It plays a key role in maintaining fiscal balance and ensuring fair distribution of financial resources across the country.

🔹 What is the Finance Commission?

The Finance Commission is an independent body created to recommend how the revenue collected by the central government should be distributed between the Centre and the States, and among the different States themselves.

Article 280 of the Indian Constitution states:

The President of India shall constitute a Finance Commission every five years or earlier if needed.

The Commission will recommend:

Distribution of net tax revenue between Centre and States

Allocation of funds among States

Measures needed to improve financial stability

Any other matter referred by the President

The Finance Commission consists of:

One Chairman

Four other members

They are appointed by the President of India.
