Health Secretary Matt Hancock is set to reiterate Monday's hopeful vaccine as an 'important step in the battle against COVID' sentiment with a side of caution there are 'still no guarantees'

"Our strategy continues to be to suppress the virus whilst protecting the economy and education until a vaccine can make us safe. It is critical however that people abide by the rules and we work to get the R number below 1.” The PM said.

The Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine uses experimental technology called “mRNA” to build one element of the coronavirus in the body, a “spike protein,” which teaches a vaccinated person to produce antibodies.

If it works, those who then come into contact with the full virus should be immune — albeit for an unknown amount of time. Based on the trial of 94 confirmed COVID cases out of 43,538 participants, so far the vaccine looks to be 90% effective at preventing people from developing the virus.
