Tip#1 Use the examples provided directly from the PMP online application
On PMP online application, there are examples of project methodologies already broken down by domain groups. I would recommend that you save project descriptions as a reference when you write the PMP project description.
Tip#2 Use role delineation study
PMI provides Role Delineation Study on their website. The tasks are categorized by the domain groups (initiating, planning, executing, monitoring & control, and closing). I would recommend that you print out the document, highlight the keywords in each task that are relevant for your project, and use it as a reference when you write your project description.
Tip #3, Reference the example that passes the PMI audit
if you still need PMP project description examples that pass the PMI audit, you can visit the comment section in https://pm.wisdomdepot.com/pmp-project-description/.
Tip #4: Maximize the space provided.
Each of the project descriptions is allowed up to 550 characters, including space.
If you have little to a lot to write, you should consider using the abbreviations. You should list the project methodologies, rather than in full sentence. You don’t have to write ‘I’ as it is assuming to be you. Also, you do not need to write your role in the project description. There is a separate drop-down field that asks the role you performed for the project.
If you have little to write, then you simply do the reverse – spell out the word; write in a complete sentence. You can also include the tools and techniques that you used for the project.
The 5th tip is to help you reconcile the time and your project description.
With the online application, it asks you to allocate the time first before asking you to write the project description.
Personally, I find it easier to write the project description and categorize project methodologies by the domain groups first, then allocate the time based on the written project description. It was easier and faster for me to write out all the project descriptions on MS Word and use the word/character count feature. Some people may prefer this approach, and some may not, so you should do whatever that makes you feel more effective.
Finally, you should review the complete application before you submit.
Once you are ready, you can submit the application.
