Not only has John Carpenter’s 1982 body horror classic The Thing become one of my favorite films, but it's also become one of the most memorable and influential horror movies ever made, with its intricate cast, spiraling story, and evocative practical effects working together to create one of the most compelling and deeply unsettling atmospheres ever put to film. However, like Alien three years prior, The Thing also has one scene that perfectly encompasses many of the ideas the film as a whole represents, that synthesizes them through an atmosphere filled with almost tangible emotions of dread, that elevates it into truly iconic territory: The Blood Test.
