The nest visible in the livestream is located in the nesting area of the black kite, which has been known since 2011. Previously, the birds nested in three other nests, two of which were observed with a livestream camera (in a birch tree in 2020, 2021, and 2022, and in a linden tree in 2023). The linden tree nest fell in the winter of 2023/2024 when the tree itself collapsed. In 2024, the nesting site was unknown, but in the autumn of the same year, a half-built nest was found in a maple tree in the previously known nesting area, and the livestream system was moved there at the beginning of 2025.
As is typical for kites, the nest is richly decorated with human-made "decorations" – plastic films, rags, and pieces of rope. Plastic film pieces have also fallen to the ground beneath the nest.
The camera system was set up by Jānis Ķuze and Jānis Rudzītis, with the participation of Pēteris Daknis, Aleksejs Šarīpins, and Renāte Kviese.
=== The ongoing events in the nest can be commented on in the Dabasdati.lv forum in Latvian: https://forums.dabasdati.lv/viewtopic.php?f=71&t=4174
