Colorful portrait painting with Julia Louis-Dreyfus! How to know your painting is complete 2020 🎨

Watch me explain and demonstrate my process as I finish my colorful portrait painting of Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

As a continuation of my last “finding value in color” video with my colorful portrait of Julia Louis-Dreyfus, this video explains the three guidelines I use to decide whether or not my painting is complete.

Here in my quarantine studio, I help explain my process. I have a four step process (sorry for saying three at the beginning of the video, lol)
First, make sure that the entire canvas is completely covered- not showing any white areas (unless that is the particular look you’re going for...)
Second, be aware of your paint application. If you want to paint like me, use thick layers of paint. Just be sure that you wait for each layer to dry so the colors don’t blend together- causing the painting to look muddy.
Third, make sure your colors are balanced. The best way to check this is by taking a photo of your painting and filtering it to black and white.
Fourth, make sure your contrast and value are balanced.
