🎛️ Using an X32/M32 as an Audio Interface | Studio Setup Tutorial
Digital mixers can work extremely well in a home studio when they’re set up correctly.
In this video, I show how I use a Behringer X32 Rack as a 32-channel audio interface to record clean, pre-processed audio into Cubase 14, using an S16 stage box over AES50.
This isn’t a mixing tutorial. The focus is signal flow, routing, and reliable multitrack recording in a studio environment.
We’ll walk through the complete setup step by step, from hardware connections to DAW configuration, so you can record all 32 inputs cleanly.
This setup is useful if you’re looking for:
• A digital mixer for a home studio
• A minimal music production setup
• Multitrack recording using a digital mixer and DAW
• 32-channel recording with a digital mixer
Home studio multitrack workflow
What’s covered in this video:
• Using an X32 as a USB audio interface
• Connecting and configuring an S16 stage box (AES50)
• X-USB drivers and X32 Edit setup
• Proper 32×32 USB routing
• Recording gain-only audio (pre EQ, compression, gates, and faders)
• Changing the recording tap for pre/post-fader recording
• Sending DAW playback back to the mixer without wasting inputs
• Headphone mixes, talkback, and monitor control
• Full Cubase input/output setup for 32-track recording
This workflow records audio before any processing, making it suitable for studio sessions, live multitrack recording, and hybrid recording or streaming setups.
Gear used:
• Behringer X32 Rack
• Behringer S16 Stage Box
• Cubase 14 Pro
If you’re building a home studio around a digital mixer or want to replace your interface with an X32 or M32, this video walks through the entire signal flow clearly and practically.
