I have a question about crop dusting. The consensus is that an insurance company wants a pilot to have 1000hrs before the the policy rate is cost effective enough for a company to hire them.

So I suppose if a pilot wanted to start his own spray business after he got the commercial rating and got a part 137 he could spray crops.

So if this is true then how many hours do you think a pilot should have before they attempted to create their own business.

For what’s its worth they have talked to a number of other companies that would consider subcontracting out acres to them.

Do you think a person should go the long route or is there a safe and effective way to be proficient and capable of gaining the needed skills needed for agricultural helicopter work."
