How to Add Stop Motion Effect on Davinci Resolve [NEW]

In this tutorial, we demonstrate the highly creative 2026 workflow for adding a Stop Motion effect in DaVinci Resolve to instantly give your smooth digital footage a choppy, retro, hand-crafted feel resembling claymation or classic paper-cut animation. To apply this, navigate to the Effects library on the Edit or Color page, select the Open FX category, and drag the Stop Motion plugin directly onto your timeline clip or onto an adjustment layer spanning across your project. Open the Inspector panel under the Effects tab to customize the Frame Hold or Frame Rate parameters, allowing you to drop the playback cadence down to an organic 8fps or 12fps while your project timeline remains at a fluid 24fps or 60fps. We also show how to manipulate the Jitter and Position Randomness sliders inside the inspector to introduce a subtle, simulated camera shake or slight layer misalignment that mimics an animator physically touching a model between shots, and how to utilize the Global Blend slider to perfectly balance the choppy, stylized movement with your clean original timeline footage for a professional, high-end artistic finish. By mastering the Stop Motion effect, you can introduce a powerful, visually unique, and deeply nostalgic sense of physical animation texture and rhythmic pacing to your professional storytelling in DaVinci Resolve 2026.
