Trigger Shot Kya Hota Hai? | IVF & IUI Trigger Injection Explained | HCG vs Agonist Trigger
Trigger Shot Kya Hota Hai? | IVF & IUI Trigger Injection Explained | HCG vs Agonist Trigger
Hello, viewers!
Today, we will discuss what a trigger shot is and the different types of trigger shots used in fertility treatments.
What is a Trigger Shot?
A trigger shot is the final injection given during fertility treatments to help mature and release eggs.
In natural or IUI cycles, where we target one or two eggs, this injection is used to trigger ovulation.
Similarly, in IVF cycles, a trigger shot is given after 8–12 days of hormone injections to prepare eggs for retrieval.
The eggs are typically retrieved 34–36 hours after the trigger shot.
Types of Trigger Shots
There are two main types of trigger shots:
1️⃣ hCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) Trigger
This is used when the number of eggs in the ovaries is normal.
However, a potential side effect of hCG is ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), where fluid can accumulate in the abdomen.
Because of this risk, hCG is not given to patients with a high egg count.
2️⃣ Agonist Trigger (GnRH Agonist)
This works similarly to hCG but reduces the risk of OHSS.
It is the preferred choice for patients with a high number of eggs to prevent complications.
Agonist triggers help mature the eggs effectively while minimizing side effects.
Which Trigger Shot is Best?
The choice between hCG and an agonist trigger depends on the patient's ovarian response.
If there is no risk of OHSS, hCG is used.
If there is a high risk of OHSS, an agonist trigger is preferred.
The final decision is made based on the patient’s egg count and health condition to ensure a safe and effective treatment.
Thank you! 😊
