Why LUTs Break Your Image: Fixing Common Mistakes in DaVinci Resolve

One of the questions I often hear from new students is, ‘Why should I learn color grading if you’re telling me to use LUTs?’ or, ‘LUTs always seem to break my image.’ But in this video, I’ll change your perspective. If you look at big-budget films, almost every project uses at least one LUT. So, why do professional colorists make the image better using LUTs instead of breaking it? It’s because they know how to use the right LUT for the right job, in the right way.

I’ll explain the different types of LUTs, how Film LUTs work in DaVinci Resolve, and why using them incorrectly can cause issues. Plus, I’ll introduce the EFI Look Development Toolkit, specifically designed for DaVinci Wide Gamut workflows.
