Zero Waste Leeds - glass recycling story, BBC Look North, 11 June 2020

Gill Coupland from Zero Waste Leeds featured in a story on BBC Look North on what happens next to glass that is recycled in Leeds’ 700 glass banks.

Leeds householders recycled 60% more glass during May at banks across the city, compared with May 2019.

The glass is taken to a facility in South Yorkshire, where it is sorted into different colours & made into new glass products. This saves energy - and precious raw materials - helping to reduce the city’s carbon footprint.

As Gill says in the piece, we can sometimes feel that our individual actions have no impact. But they do matter - when lots of us do those actions together.
