Bruce Stark: Serenade for Strings (World Premiere)
01.05.2024 - Camerata PYP, conducted by David Hattner, perform the World Premiere of Bruce Stark's "Serenade for Strings."
I. Allegro Moderato
II. Andante Cantabile 4:23
III. Rondo 8:12
PROGRAM NOTE:
Serenade for Strings was composed in June of 2023. The sound of string orchestra is one of my favorites in the western classical palette, with its capacity for rich, blended timbre as well as a broad range of possible sounds. True to its title, I wanted to create an attractive piece that sings and dances with beauty, lyricism, and vibrant energy.
Serenade for Strings is dedicated to conductor David Hattner and the Portland Youth Philharmonic, in appreciation of their splendid musicianship and vitality. Their wonderful premiere of my Variations for Piano and Strings in 2022 inspired me to create this piece, an offering in gratitute and appreciation of their contribution to music education and the performance of concert music.
Bruce sent the following message to the musicians of Camerata PYP after the performance: "Bravo!!! Your performance was everything I had hoped for: full of beauty, lyricism, expression, vibrant, exhilarating rhythms—it had it all. Thank you so much for your time and talents in bringing this piece to the audience—you are amazing!"
